Default Cycling Shoes

I have a friend that's been training with regular running shoes and flat pedals. He was saying that his hamstrings has been hurting and he's slowing down when riding. Does it really make a difference to be wearing cycling shoes?

Like with any sport you need the shoes to fit the job.

Wikipedia always goes into oodles of detail for me:

From a random article:

It's interesting to me...I never understood why there are so many shoes...running shoes, aerobic shoes, biking shoes, swimming shoes, and on and on. I thought it was just a way for shoe companies to make more money in excessive/unnecessary ways by appearing to make it look like you can't live without them.

But get sore feet and shin splints because your feet don't get enough air flow and poor support for that particular sport and one is thankful for good shoes.

Thanks for the information! I notice that there are so many different types of shoes. I was in Dick's today looking at athletic shoes.

Well Well Well, who's got a dunce cap? I need it. In all my life I never realized there were cycling shoes. And let me tell you, I am a toe dragger for slowing down. Do they have nice hard brake pads on the toes?? LOL I go through tennis shoes so fast by burning them up on pavement when braking!

I think a lot may be mental. Every time a new sport gains opularity, there are a lot of people who think they need every bell and whistle. I've found that a lot of it is comfort and what you;re accustomed to. Just a thought. Wouldn;;t recommend high heels.

I had to buy some cycling shoes because the Nike's were killing my feet. I notice that Nike makes the toe part of the shoes very narrow.
