I have an old bmx that is single speed.

You know honestly I'm not sure how well I could manage speeds. I love my bike though. Except when going up tall steep hills *grin* I'm totally walking it about half way up.

These are my bikes of preference though. I just think they are more fun to ride.

Anyone else?

I have an SS and love riding it - it's a Redline Monocog 29er

I was never really fond of the ss bikes. I think that if it works for you then I don't see any reason to change.

So is this a quality bike you think would be affordable and a good starting bike for my son? He's 11. I was hoping to get him XC biking with me. But not sure if this is the right way to go.

Again, I think so much has to do with your comfort zone. If you are convinced one works for you, ehy mroe around. But then again, if you step out a bit you may find more enjoymnt than before. Sounds a bit like life and why I got into biking in the first place.

I've never been a huge fan of the ss bikes either. Just haven't gotten the feel for it. Maybe I'm just missing the finesse of it.

I have an old ss speed back that I ride sometimes. But, I'm still shopping for more bikes.
